Because sometimes, love needs a good pair of skates to find its way home.

Recently, I worked in a home that carried both heaviness and hidden hearts. Four souls were waiting there, each with their own reason for lingering, and something else — something unkind — was holding the space in a way that kept them tethered.

The first to step forward was an older gentleman. His presence was quiet, but his gratitude was strong. He wanted one simple thing: for me to thank the homeowner for being kind to him. Once I promised to pass that along, he was ready. He crossed quickly, without hesitation.

The second was a young girl, tangled in a strange kind of attachment. She believed herself “loved” by the very thing that was keeping her trapped — a darker energy that pretended to be a caring boyfriend.  I released her from the unkind energy, but resentment still clung to her — anger at her parents for not letting her live as she wished. That anger built a wall between us, keeping her from the truth of what love really is.

So instead of pushing, I asked her to remember something that once brought her joy. She spoke of ice skating — Saturday nights under the rink lights. I opened a view into that world for her: a glowing rink, music in the air, the sound of skates on fresh ice. Her angel appeared there, not in shining robes, but as a patient skating instructor.

I asked her what color skates she’d like to wear. “Pastel blue,” she said.

So I gave her pastel blue skates, filled with the kind of love that can’t be faked. I told her she could try the rink and, if she didn’t like it, she could come back. She didn’t come back.

The remaining souls each found their way home, and the darker energy was taken apart — reduced to its smallest pieces and sent to a place where it could be turned toward something good.

When I left, the air felt different. Lighter. The kind of lightness that isn’t just the absence of heaviness, but the presence of peace.

Every clearing reminds me that love has a wonderful sense of timing — and, apparently, a flair for footwear. Here’s to the pastel-blue moments that remind us peace can smile, too.

  1. I always wanted pastel blue ice skates when I was young. It was my favorite color. Thank you for sharing your experiences. You see, you love, and you write beautifully. I hang on every word.🩵
