My Heart Dropped Faster Than My Kickstand

A reminder that metal bends, but Spirit doesn’t.

Well… that wasn’t quite how I planned to end the riding season.

One moment I was easing my bike toward the shed, feeling all sentimental about putting her away for winter — the next, there was a slip, a thunk, and the unmistakable sound of my heart sliding right down into my boots.

The front fender bent, beautiful chrome laying on the floor. My pride bent right along with it.

For a few seconds I just stood there — part stunned, part grateful it was only the bike that took the hit (not to mention my ego).

There’s a special kind of ouch that comes from accidentally wounding something you love. But as I stood there mumbling a few unprintable words, Spirit whispered — very gently, I might add —

“Easy now. You’re safe. The metal can be mended. The story continues.”

So I placed a hand on the handlebars, took a breath, and thanked my faithful companion for every mile we’ve shared this year — the laughter, the wind, the quiet hum of trust that only riders understand.

She’ll rest, now. Tucked in safe from the winter snow.

So will I.

Winter will handle the stillness and the repair work. And when spring rolls back around, we’ll be ready — maybe a little scratched, a little wiser, but still grinning under our helmets and riding straight toward the next horizon.

Until spring, may the roads in my dreams stay open and the tea stay warm. ☕✨
